Following a disappointing 2013 campaign, the Minnesota Vikings made sure to make significant upgrades this offseason. They scored big during free agency and even made a few splashes when the 2014 NFL Draft rolled around. Still, there are some rumors floating around about potential moves the Vikings could make.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the five biggest Vikings rumors as OTAs are set to begin.

With Teddy Bridgewater and Matt Cassel now settled into the top two quarterbacks, the Vikings might not see it worth keeping Ponder around. The former first-round pick is clearly nothing more than a No. 3 at this moment, but other teams might not see it that way. If there’s a team desperate enough for depth to table a decent offer for Ponder, it’s not crazy to think the Vikings would pull the trigger.

If the Vikings can’t find a trade partner for Ponder, they could opt to release the subpar passer. While he does offer experience with the offense and is a decent backup, keeping him around also opens the door for him to have another opportunity to sabotage the Vikings’ offense. Is that really worth keeping him around?

Even though the Vikings re-signed him this offseason, Johnson shouldn’t be seen as a shoe-in to return to the starting lineup. Jeff Baca was seen as his top competition for the left guard spot until Minnesota drafted David Yankey in the fifth round. Despite his late-round status, he’s a starting-caliber talent who could give the veteran a serious push for the starting job with a strong training camp showing.

It seems like this rumor pops up every month or two. Still, word on the street is that the Vikings are considering trading Peterson. Don’t believe it for a second. Despite his injury history and the fact that he’s quickly approaching 30 years of age, he’s the face of the franchise and the only player who can carry this team to a playoff appearance.

While it seemed like the Vikings would let Bridgewater sit and soak in the NFL game during his rookie season, the team might have a different plan in mind. After an impressive showing during rookie minicamp, Bridgewater is, in fact, in the conversation for the starting job. Cassel might be the safe bet at quarterback, but Bridgewater is the one that could make the Vikings relevant again.
