With OTAs just around the corner, the Green Bay Packers are hard at work preparing for another playoff run. That includes some work going on behind closed doors, which has spurred some rumors to start swirling their way around the internet as the Packers look to get better before the regular season begins.

Here’s a look at the five biggest Packers rumors currently making the rounds.

According to recent reports, the Packers aren’t quite ready to give their head coach an extension just yet. Apparently, they aren’t going to do so until they’ve tacked a few years onto the deal of GM Ted Thompson. While it’s certainly an understandable move considering Thompson’s impact and a need for priorities, they can’t afford to alienate their outstanding head honcho.

After impressing during a tryout, Lyerla earned a contract with the Packers, but has a long way to go before he’s ready to actually contribute on game day. Still, the potential is there for him to develop into a playmaker in Green Bay. He has the physical tools, but are the Packers ready to look past his apparent off-field issues and give him an opportunity to be an NFL tight end?

After two disappointing seasons in Green Bay, Worthy might be running out of time. The Packers have drafted two defensive ends in the early rounds of the last two drafts, and appear ready to move on from Worthy. While they might not get a second-round pick back for him, the Packers would be better off getting what they can instead of letting him ride the pine until his contract runs out.

This offseason, Finley hit the free agent market and has received minimal interest while working his way back from a serious neck injury that brought his 2013 campaign to an abrupt end. As he continues to work his way back into playing shape, the Packers have been keeping tabs on his progress. Unless they find a solid tight end to take his place during OTAs, Green Bay will seriously consider re-signing him when he’s ready to play.

When the 2014 NFL season comes to an end, Nelson will be a free agent. If the Packers have anything to say about it, though, that situation will never become a reality. Nelson has been a stud wide receiver for Aaron Rodgers and Co. since joining the team in 2008, and is already talking with the team about signing an extension. The Packers only have so much time to get a deal done, and will likely come to terms sooner rather than later.
