The New England Patriots clearly need to tweak a few things next season, and especially if they are planning to get back to the Super Bowl. They had a decent draft, but some of their past failings (e.g. Aaron Hernandez) have set them back quite a bit. Here are five rumors that have been swirling around them this offseason, and for any super fans out there I promise not to mention SpyGate. Whoops.
Jimmy Garoppolo has apparently learned all of Brady's throwing mechanics, and so it should be interesting to see if the Golden Boy gets moved into a Drew Bledsoe type of role by the 2015 season. It probably does not seem likely, but it is still possible. An injury would obviously accelerate this process.
I feel bad for the linebacker, because he was only signed with the Patriots for about four days. Here is hoping that he finds another job quickly, and I'm sure there are a couple teams in the NFC East who could use some help.
Revis has long been a favorite of the Patriots' coaching staff, and they were lucky enough to add him to the fold. He will begin to make his presence felt more fully at OTAs.
Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston wrote that Johnson to the Patriots would be a "longshot", but he also mentioned it would be a dream scenario if it worked out. Johnson could give the Patriots their best receiving threat since Randy Moss, and Andre comes without all of the drama.
If defensive tackle Dominique Easley can contribute right away, then it could give the Patriots the run-stopping threat they have been searching for all along. They keep trying to outscore their opponents, but the Seattle Seahawks reminded us all last season that defense definitely still wins championships.
