Organized Team Activities (OTAs) are about to commence for the Philadelphia Eagles, and soon after that comes training camp, the preseason and the much anticipated regular season. There is still much to be sorted out, including the final 53-man roster, which rookies will stand out and what changes will be made to the starting lineup.
Let's take a look at the five biggest rumors surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles heading into OTAs.
Ed Reynolds is a talented young man. Two years ago he had one of the best seasons for any defensive back in the country. Had he stayed in school another season he would have been a day two pick. Reynolds has the talent and skill to potentially start at safety as soon as his rookie year. Will Reynolds get that shot? The summer grind of training camp will tell.
The Philadelphia Eagles got a heck of a talent in undrafted free agency in the form of Trey Burton. He is a move tight end with the athletic skills and pure speed to beat safeties and linebackers down the field. Can Burton unseat James Casey as the third guy behind Brent Celek and Zach Ertz?
The Philadelphia Eagles got an absolute steal plucking Jaylen Watkins at the top of the fourth round. He has all the requisite skills to be a starter on the outside at corner in this league. Size, check. Elite speed, check. Play making ability, check. Can Watkins unseat one of the Eagles' veteran corners as soon as his rookie year? He certainly has the physical skills and mental makeup to do just that.
The Philadelphia Eagles addressed their most pressing need when they traded down in the first round and selected pass rusher Marcus Smith. Smith has the size, length and athleticism Chip Kelly craves at the outside linebacker position. Smith will battle the aging Trent Cole to be a starter on the outside. Can he unseat the veteran?
The Philadelphia Eagles loaded up on receivers in the draft. They traded up for Jordan Matthews and plucked Josh Huff in the third round. Matthews with his size and speed projects to the outside long term, and Huff with his darting quickness and route running in the slot. The Eagles also re-upped Riley Cooper long-term to a five-year pact.
This begs the question: Where does this leave Jeremy Maclin? This year is big for his future.
