When one thinks about “Thunder and Lightning” the thoughts of pure electricity, shocking sounds and incredible speed come to mind. This new nickname is what the New York Jets plan to deploy upon opposing teams come this season with the rushing tandem of Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory. Expected to run the football about 70 percent of the time on offense, the Jets will rely on both main running backs to work together and wear down defenses like there is no tomorrow.

The plan is both will work as a cohesive unit to wear down specific areas on opposing defensive lines. It’ll help win the battle of the trenches as well as open up the passing game via play action plays and quick slant routes to the inside. The main goal is to at least get 100 rushing yards between the tandem which will dominate the running game as well as eat up plenty of time.

Don’t forget that it won’t be just these two premier rushers in the mix. The Jets were sure to solidify its running game by having plenty of options at running back. With Daryl Richardson and Bilal Powell as quality depth, the sky is the limit to just how much impact the running game will have come this season. As we all remember, it’s one of the big reasons the Jets made back-to-back appearances in the AFC Championship Game because they were one of the very few teams in the NFL to run the football effectively.

Overall, this will be an exciting season for the Jets with all the new faces and incredible potential to once again be a playoff contending team. With this new tandem of “Thunder and Lightning” about to be unleashed, it’s going to literally shock the football world as to how dominating the Jets will be. Not to mention all the upgrades that have been made so far this offseason to improve many areas across the team, the Jets have something special brewing. The time is now to prepare and be ready to execute once the regular season starts.
