5 Things the Saints Should Focus On

The New Orleans Saints look to reclaim their NFC South title and bring back the Lombardi Trophy to the Big Easy. They had a good year in 2013, but look to do better this season. The team made a splash in both the free-agent market and 2014 NFL Draft. However, there a still a few areas that could use some improvement. With that said, let's take a look at five things the Saints should focus on in training camp.

Reminiscing on the past few seasons, the Saints' return game has been a little below average. Now, with the departure of Darren Sproles and Lance Moore, it looks like Travaris Cadet is next in line to handle punt and kick return duties. Cadet doesn't have ideal ball-handling skills, so New Orleans may want to focus on finding a better option. I would love to see them try and work rookie WR Brandin Cooks into the scenario.

A pass-happy offense can only go so far without a solid running game. Since New Orleans' Super Bowl win in 2009, the rushing attack hasn't been quite the same. The Saints only averaged 92 yards per game last season, but if they can improve their yards on the ground, that will take pressure off of Drew Brees, which well help him limit the turnovers. That is something that will need a little more focus on in training camp.

The Saints finished the 2013 season with the No. 4 overall defense; it was a complete turnaround from the year before. However, they allowed 111 yards on the ground, which ranked 19th in the NFL. New Orleans needs to work on plugging up the middle better, but with a little improvement, the defense may carry them a long way in 2014.

2. Pass Protection

The Saints will look to better their offensive line before the season kicks off. Guards Jahri Evans and Ben Grubbs, and right tackle Zach Strief have the game on lock. However, LT Terron Armstead only has a few games under his belt. Not to mention, the team has not yet found a starting center after parting ways with Brian de la Puente. Drew Brees is New Orleans' most prized possession, so solid pass protection is a must.

It's about time the New Orleans Saints and their top target work out a deal. Other than Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham is the biggest playmaker on the team. Something needs to be done soon, but the Saints cannot let it be a distraction during training camp.
