As the Indianapolis Colts enter the third season of the Andrew Luck era, the team has several distractions on its plate at the current moment. The team's top pass rusher, Robert Mathis, was recently suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season. Owner Jim Irsay is facing charges for impaired driving and some are calling the Colts' offseason the worst of any NFL team. Here are five of the biggest rumors facing the Colts as they enter OTAs.

There may be 32 teams in the NFL, but that's not stopping pundits from criticizing the Colts for their lack of action during the offseason. Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN gave the Colts the lowest draft grade (D+) of all 32 teams. A group of ESPN analysts also gave the Colts a league-worst offseason grade of a D+. Considering the Colts lost Antoine Bethea to free agency and had just five picks in the draft, ESPN certainly has an argument.

The Colts traded a first-round draft pick last season to the Cleveland Browns for RB Trent Richardson. He was supposed to provide stability to the running game. Instead, he was one of the least-productive backs in all of the NFL. Richardson averaged just 2.9 yards per carry on 157 carries in nearly a full season spent with the team. Donald Brown outperformed Richardson by rushing for 5.3 yards a carry.

Hakeem Nicks was one of the top receivers in the NFL during the 2010 and 2011 seasons when he posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Although Nicks was still solid in 2013, he failed to catch a single touchdown in 15 games started. That is a mind-boggling statistic considering Nicks' talent and the fact he was one of the Giants' top receivers. Nicks signed with the Colts in the offseason, and he'll hope to bounce back in 2014.

2. Robert Mathis' Four-Game Suspension Will Doom Colts' Season

As if the offseason couldn't get any worse for the Colts, it was announced recently that top pass rusher Robert Mathis would be suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season for violating the league's drug policy. That means Mathis will miss the Week 1 opener versus Peyton Manning and the Broncos and Week 2 versus Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles. Mathis' absence could have a huge impact on the season.

While it is true the Colts have a bright future ahead of them with a young nucleus featuring the likes of Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton, the belief that the Colts are a second-tier AFC team is true. The Colts will likely repeat as AFC South champions for the second-consecutive season due to playing in a weak division, but when matched up with the Broncos or New England Patriots, the Colts simply don't measure up.
