The defending Super Bowl Champions started OTAs with a lot of lingering questions as they head into the 2014 NFL season looking to defend their title. They lost a ton of talented players during the offseason and have key players coming off serious injuries. With that in mind, here are five storylines to follow during the Seahawks' OTAs.

Though he has started 26 games, the Seahawks' first-round pick in 2011 hasn’t lived up to the potential. He came into camp in better shape than last year when he was slowed by knee injuries, but the Seahawks declined to pick up his option for 2015. Add that to the departure of veteran Paul McQuistan, who shared time at left guard last season, and it is a make-or-break year for Carpenter.

There is massive potential lurking in the second-round pick from 2013, and even though they have “Beast Mode” Marshawn Lynch, every team needs to look to the future. Especially given Lynch’s contract is up in two years and replacing him with Michael would give them some cap relief. The Seahawks need to see what they have in Michael, whose blocking should get better as he continues to learn the offense.

They will need to replace both his offensive and punt return production. They still have solid options in Doug Baldwin and Percy Harvin, but Harvin is an injury risk. After Baldwin, it gets pretty thin, which led to the team spending a second-round pick on Paul Richardson and a fourth-rounder on Kevin Norwood. As for punt returning, the early rumors are leading towards Richard Sherman, but that remains to be seen.

The Seahawks were gutted in the offseason, losing Red Bryant, Chris Clemons and Clinton McDonald. They were a pivotal part of a seven-man rotation that allowed for mixing and matching based on matchup. Can the young guys, like Greg Scruggs, Jesse Williams, Jordan Hill and Benson Mayowa, fill the void? Or will the team lean more heavily on LB Bruce Irvin to play the rush end position?

A lot of key players are coming off injuries, and their health will be vital if the Seahawks' hope to repeat. LB Malcolm Smith is recovering from ankle surgery. Left tackle Russell Okung had toe surgery. Strong safety Kam Chancellor had minor hip surgery. Richard Sherman left the Super Bowl with an ankle injury. Center Max Unger had various injuries last season, and the oft-injured Percy Harvin had hip surgery. This will be the story to monitor.
