The Minnesota Vikings have a made a lot of significant changes and upgrades to their offense, defense and coaching staff during the 2014 offseason. While the team will surely improve on their disappointing 2013 season, there are still many areas where the team will struggle in this season.

Here is a look at five Vikings starters who will struggle in 2014.

As a unit, the Vikings have a very strong offensive line. However, the guard position, namely Johnson is extremely weak. Johnson struggled mightily in 2013 and will likely continue to struggle as he ages. Expect rookie guard David Yankey to claim his spot by the end of 2014.

4. Cordarrelle Patterson

One of the lone bright spots of the 2013 season for the Vikings, Patterson was electric in his rookie season. However, most of his impact came as a return man. New offensive coordinator Norv Turner runs a much more difficult offense than Bill Musgrave and Patterson is still working on his route running. Patterson should improve in 2014, but likely will struggle a bit early on.

3. Chad Greenway

Greenway has been a fixture in the Vikings linebacking crew for seven years now. However, his age is clearly beginning to catch up to him and he will be asked to do more in coverage in Mike Zimmer’s defensive scheme, one of his weakest areas.

2. Jamarca Sanford

The Vikings' defense was anemic in 2013 and one of the greatest reasons for that was the secondary. Sanford is arguably the weakest link of this crew and may even lose his starting job before the season begins. However, if he does start the season as the starting strong safety, expect much of the same from Sanford in 2014.

There is no doubting Barr’s talent and athleticism. However, he is extremely raw and it may take him some time to adjust to playing linebacker in the NFL. Expect Barr to struggle adjusting to NFL game speed and for most of his impact to come as a pass rusher in 2014.
