Although the New Orleans Saints are one of the best teams in the NFL, even they have players who don’t live up to expectations. Here are five Saints starters who will struggle in 2014.
Although Kenny Stills enjoyed a very good rookie season in 2013, he could be heading toward a sophomore slump in 2014. Stills will be expected to step into a starting role across from Marques Colston in his second season, and I’m just not sure that he is ready.
Despite being one of the most productive running backs in the NFL when he’s given opportunities, Pierre Thomas still looks primed to struggle in 2014. Already 29 and with Mark Ingram a legitimate threat to overtake him for the starting position, it could be a rough season for Thomas.
Forced into a starting job last season, Terron Armstead looked overwhelmed with the speed of the NFL game. Unless he has a massive breakthrough in his second season, he will again struggle.
With the loss of Brian De La Puente this offseason, a big hole was opened up in the middle of New Orleans’ offensive line, a hole that Tim Lelito is expected to fill. Unfortunately, he hasn’t proven capable of being a starting lineman in the league up to this point, and it’s hard to believe that 2014 will be any different.
Although Champ Bailey is one of the best cornerbacks to ever play the NFL, 2014 looks like it could be a rough year for the 15-year veteran. Bailey has likely lost a step going into his 16th season, and will struggle as a starter for the Saints.
