On a 53-man NFL roster, teams usually carry six receivers. That means the Buffalo Bills’ receiving corps will be cut in half before the start of the season. Let’s take a look at which receivers will make the team and what their role will be this upcoming season.

Hogan played in all 16 games for the Bills last season and has proved to be a solid depth receiver. He’s a strong receiver that can play the slot as a substitute for Robert Woods.

Although many would consider Barden a bust, this year he may have found the right fit in Buffalo. You can practice and learn how to become a polished receiver, but there’s one thing you can’t teach and that’s size. At 6-foot-6, he can make plays on a jump ball and be a threat in the red zone. He can also be used on special teams to block punts.

4. Marquise Goodwin

He may be small, but Goodwin is a burner with elite quickness. Look for him to have a larger role in the offense this season. He’s also a threat at special teams as a kick returner. With Goodwin on the roster as their speedy receiver, T.J. Graham will most likely be cut.

This should be a big year for Woods. He’s likely taking on the role of slot receiver and will get a lot of targets on quick pass plays. He built a strong chemistry with quarterback EJ Manuel last season, so look for them to click this season.

Williams seems like he’ll be a direct replacement for Steve Johnson. As a physical receiver with strong hands, he’ll be a reliable target on third down.

Watkins has the speed and route-running skills of an elite receiver combined with the power and vision of a running back. The Bills will unitize his skills in a variety of ways, from the screen game to the deep ball.
