The Philadelphia Eagles really strengthened their young wide receiving core after selecting Jordan Matthews by doubling up on pass catchers and selecting Josh Huff in the third round.
One word comes to mind when thinking of Huff: explosive. Huff can turn a 10-yard gain into a long touchdown with his darting quickness and sharpness in and out of his breaks. Head coach Chip Kelly loves sudden athletes and Huff is certainly one of them. Truthfully, he is a prototypical slot weapon in what is becoming primarily a passing league. While it looks like Matthews will start off in the slot as a rookie, in the near future when Matthews eventually moves outside, expect Huff to step right in and perform admirably inside.
Huff can also bring added value on special teams. He has the body type, quickness and athleticism to thrive returning kicks or punts. We will see if coach Kelly utlilizes the multi-dimensional Huff in that fashion going forward.
For now, Huff brings even more explosion to an already explosive offense. Nick Foles has to be licking his chops to get the season started. The Eagles have overhauled the receiver position by bringing in tough-minded individuals who put the team over themselves and have a hard-working attitude.
There will be no shenanigans this season under Kelly — strictly business. By listening to Matthews and Huff, it is clear that as rookies they already get the memo. I expect this offense to take another step forward this year, and with the familiarity many of the veterans and even young players have with the system including Huff, I fully expect this race car offense to go even faster.
