5 Things Chicago Bears Must Accomplish During OTAs

With OTAs heating up, the Chicago Bears have plenty of things to do in order to be contenders this season. Here is the list of the five most important things they need to accomplish during OTAs.

5. Replace Devin Hester

During free agency, the Bears parted ways with their future Hall-of-Fame return man, Devin Hester. Hester would go on to reunite with Lovie Smith in Tampa Bay, which now leaves the Bears with the unpleasant task of replacing one of the best ever. Things got complicated when Domenik Hixon tore his ACL last week. WR Chris Williams is the leading candidate to take over at this point.

After drafting Ego Ferguson and Will Sutton in this year's NFL draft, the Bears now have pretty good depth along the defensive line. Now they need to fit all the pieces together. Jeremiah Ratliff and Stephen Paea are slated to start, though the Bears still need to slot Ferguson, Sutton and Nate Collins, who is returning from a torn ACL suffered last season.

The Bears surprise some when they took Fuller in the first round of the draft, and now they need to find a way to get him on the field with Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings. The Bears have Jennings starting in their base defense, and moving into nickel while Fuller takes over at CB when they shift to their nickel package. The team needs to clearly define to Fuller what his responsibilities are so the rookie has the best chance to succeed.

After suffering one of the worst defensive seasons in team history, the Bears overhauled their defensive unit, and have hinted at adding some new defensive schemes. If defensive coordinator Mel Tucker has decided to add some new wrinkles to his defensive play calls, now is the time to implement them.

After two futile season at defensive end, the former first-round pick will make the move to linebacker this year. Although McClellin played the position in college, there have been many doubters wondering if he can pull off the switch. The Bears will need his added depth this season as they are thin on backups at the position. McClellin is expected to compete with Jon Bostic for the starting strong side linebacker spot.
