Training camp will be underway within a few months or so, and that is when the San Francisco 49ers will begin their quest for a Super Bowl. The 49ers have a huge amount of pressure on them to win a Super Bowl this season, and the microscope will be on them from training camp until the end of the season. Here are the team's five most intriguing players at this point of the offseason.
Jonathan Martin will get a fresh start with his former college head coach Jim Harbaugh. Martin had an ugly departure as a member of the Miami Dolphins so he will look to regain his respect as he enters his first year with the San Francisco 49ers. Martin will not be a starter, but he will play a role as a key backup. The question that remains is will Jonathan Martin's fresh start help revitalize his career?
Stevie Johnson is used to being the No.1 wide receiver, but that will change this year with the San Francisco 49ers. Johnson will obviously have less balls thrown to him than he is used to, and it will be interesting to see how he adapts to his new role. Wide receivers are normally perceived as divas, and it will be intriguing to see if Johnson leaves his diva-ish ways at home.
Marcus Lattimore is an intriguing player due to the uncertainty that surrounds his ACL injury that kept him out last season. Lattimore basically had the NFL version of a redshirt year, and he sat out all last season. With a crowded backfield it will be interesting to see how the 49ers utilize Lattimore's abilities.
Questions about Aldon Smith the football player should never arise, but the evolution of Aldon Smith the person should. Smith has faced his fair share of off the field issues, and he is looking to make a change for the better. Dealing with Smith's off the field issues should be top priority. Everyone knows that Smith is an All-Pro caliber player, but the development of Smith's personal life is just important as his impact on the field.
Colin Kaepernick is fresh off of signing a new contract that will be worth up to $ 126 million if he reaches all of his incentives. The contract places a huge bulls-eye on Kaepernick's back, and it adds to the pressure of the Super Bowl or bust season that the 49ers already have. It will be interesting to see how Kaepernick responds to the added pressure that will be placed on him.
