Over the past few seasons, the Cincinnati Bengals have experienced a lot of success in the regular season only to be shut down in the playoffs. A big part of the team’s lack of success in the playoffs has been poor play from some of the team’s veterans. Because of their poor play, many of those veterans will be without a team by the time the season comes around.

Here are five veterans who won't make it to the Bengals' final roster.

5. FS Taylor Mays

Although Taylor Mays is a quality backup safety, the fact is the Bengals just have too much depth at the position for Mays to stay on the roster. Danieal Manning is a better all-around player, and with rookie Isaiah Lewis opening eyes at OTAs, Mays won’t make the roster.

Once upon a time, Leon Hall was one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, but when the injury bug came along, Hall’s career suffered. When the team selected Darqueze Dennard with a first-round selection in this year’s draft, it made it clear that Hall is on the way out.

3. QB Matt Scott

When Matt Scott ended up with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season after going undrafted, many thought Scott could make waves for the team. However, after a season in which he saw no real game action, Scott was released by the team and signed by the Bengals. That said, with A.J. McCarron and Jason Campbell on the team, Scott just doesn’t fit in.

2. WR Brandon Tate

A third-round pick for the New England Patriots back in 2009, Brandon Tate has been a disappointment at the NFL level. The Bengals have a very deep receiving corps around Tate, and it’s hard to believe he will make the final roster.

1. RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Although he’s been mildly productive for the Bengals over the past two seasons, there just isn’t a reason for BenJarvus Green-Ellis to remain on the Bengals’ roster. Gio Bernard and Jeremy Hill make Green-Ellis expendable at this point.
