In 2013, the Houston Texans went from legitimate Super Bowl contenders, to absolute bottom-feeders, mainly due to a lack of production from veteran players. Some of these players, like Matt Schaub, have already been released, however, more cuts are coming for Texans’ veterans. That said, here are five veterans who won’t make the Texans’ final roster.

One of the most inconsistent starting kickers in the NFL, Randy Bullock just isn’t an NFL-quality place kicker. It’s only a matter of time before Bullock is kicked to the curb.

Going into the 2014 NFL draft, Brad Smelley’s spot on the Texans’ roster seemed safe. However, after the team went out and drafted Jay Prosch, Smelley’s fate was sealed. Prosch is the better player, and Smelley will be looking for a job soon.

Once one of the more promising young receivers in the league, Mike Thomas’ NFL career has fallen off the rails over the last few seasons. Thomas failed to latch on with a team last season, and the same fate awaits him this season.

When he’s on the field, Alex Kupper isn’t all that great, and when the Texans drafted Xavier Su’a-Filo in the second round this year, it became clear the team has no plans for Kupper in the future. It’s only a matter of time before Kupper finds himself looking for a new team.

Although he showed promise in his rookie season back in 2011, T.J. Yates won’t be on the Texans’ roster come the 2014 season. With Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, and rookie Tom Savage all battling for the starting spot, there’s no room left for Yates.
