Although the Kansas City Chiefs made a remarkable improvement in 2013, I’m not sure the team has the talent to take the next step in 2014. In my opinion, the Chiefs’ level of veteran talent just leaves too much to be desired. With that said, here are five veterans who won’t make the Chiefs’ final roster.

Although he has an average of 4.5 yards per carry in his career, Joe McKnight’s play hasn’t been all that great. McKnight isn’t particularly talented in any area, and with the amount of depth the Chiefs have at the position, there’s no place for McKnight.

Since being drafted in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders, DeMarcus Van Dyke has been a total bust. Van Dyke lasted just one season with Oakland, and now, after two unproductive seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Van Dyke finds himself in Kansas City. Unfortunately, there’s no need for Van Dyke on the Chiefs’ roster, and he will be released sooner rather than later.

3. RB Cyrus Gray

Considered by many to be a steal in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL draft, Cyrus Gray has underwhelmed during his time in the NFL. Gray has just 68 total rushing yards in his career to this point, and he doesn’t warrant a spot on the Chiefs’ roster.

2. DT Kyle Love

A below-average NFL defensive tackle, Kyle Love hasn’t done enough to earn himself a spot on the Chiefs’ final roster. The team has a lot of depth along the defensive line, and Love is expendable because of it.

1. QB Tyler Bray

Despite the fact that I think Tyler Bray could one day become a serviceable NFL QB, the fact is, there just isn’t a place for him on the Chiefs’ roster. Rookie Aaron Murray is farther along in his development than Bray is at this point, and it’s almost guaranteed Bray will play elsewhere in 2014.
