The Indianapolis Colts are extremely deep at the wide receiver position and there appears to be a fight for the fourth wide receiver spot on the depth chart. Square in the middle of that fight is LaVon Brazill.
Brazill will be entering his third year in the league and is a product out of Ohio University. He is known for his speed and his hands are good for the NFL level. He is going to have to compete with Da’Rick Rogers if he is going to make an impact on the team this year. Don’t expect rookie Donte Moncrief to take over Brazill’s spot on the depth chart, but somewhere down the road that could be a possibility.
Like Rogers, Brazill doesn’t have the experience to move to the slot position, and the Colts would be wise to use his speed on the boundary rather in the slot. Brazill’s frame is also suited for the outside because he weighs in at 194 pounds.
Brazill has to stay out of trouble if he wants to remain on the roster as well. He was suspended for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy last year. If he gets himself in trouble again, the Colts will not hesitate to cut him thanks to the depth they have at the position.
Brazill also adds value in terms of special teams; he has played on kickoff and could be a decent kick returner thanks to his speed. He is a great player who can provide depth. You would not want Brazill to be a focal point in the Colts’ offense, but he can provide a spark at times. Brazill should make the roster without any questions, but he is going to have to fight for playing time.
