The New England Patriots' first steps of the preseason are underway as the OTAs are up and running. Many players, veterans and rookies, are trying to make their mark in order to make a roster spot with the Patriots. Here are five players who could be moving up on the depth chart based on their performances at OTAs.

Boyce looks more comfortable catching passes from Tom Brady so far. The second-year player has also shown improvements in special teams with his kick-return game. Boyce, who had a less-than-stellar rookie season, is fighting for a roster spot and is certainly making his mark.

Ryan had himself a solid rookie season, showing he can make an impact on this defense. While Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner lead the way in coverage, Ryan could find himself as the third CB on the depth chart.

3. DB Daxton Swanson

Swanson is giving it all he has in OTAs after being cut by the Colts and 49ers last season. He broke up a number of passes in Week 1, an interception in Week 2 and another pass breakup in Week 3. He could certainly find himself as the fifth CB on the Patriots to start the season.

2. S Duron Harmon

Harmon, who is a practically the only answer at the second safety position, added a lot of bulk this offseason. The second-year player is projected to have a big season considering who he is playing with in the secondary. Harmon would be huge for the Patriots if he can stabilize the strong safety position.

Like Harmon, Thompkins has gotten significantly bigger and stronger as he is well over 200 pounds. He just needs to learn the playbook and improve his ability to catch the ball and he could be a top receiver on this team. Thompkins has made strides this preseason, which will hopefully carry over into the regular season.
