Miami Dolphins: Predicting the Impact of Every 2014 Draft Pick

The Miami Dolphins have brought in a few under-the-radar players from the 2014 NFL Draft class and will look to build towards the future with these players. The team will rely on a few players from their '14 class to contribute immediately, but the remaining players will likely have to wait to make an impact for the Dolphins.

Let's take a look on a scale of 1 to 10 on the impact each rookie will have this season for the Dolphins.

DE Terrence Fede

Fede is in the same mold as Derrick Shelby in that he's a bit oversized to be a dominant pass rusher from the defensive end position but a bit undersized to be dominant inside as a defensive tackle. He's a project heading into the season and may find himself working his way up from the practice squad.

Hazel is the second receiver the Dolphins decided to spend a draft selection on this past May, and he could end up paying dividends. Similar to former Dolphin BJ Cunningham, he will likely find himself on the practice squad to begin his career unless he can carve out a role on special teams.

Tripp, a projected third-round pick, was snatched up by the Dolphins in the fifth round. He flies around on the field and plays with incredible instincts. Unfortunately, while I would love to see him contribute immediately as a starter at middle backer, it's highly unlikely unless Koa Misi struggles. His impact will be felt on special teams.

TE Arthur Lynch

Lynch, a traditional style tight end, will likely serve as the team's top option as the in-line blocking tight end unless second-year TE Dion Sims can beat Lynch outright for that job. Lynch's impact should be felt this season, however, especially in short yardage situations as a sure-handed target.

CB Walt Aikens

Aikens is a long corner who will likely need a few years of good coaching to help him excel at the next level as a potential No. 2 corner. His impact during his rookie season should be felt as a gunner on special teams units and could even serve as a potential return man if he can beat out KR Marcus Thigpen for such duties.

Turner, who played tackle in college at North Dakota State, will be playing inside as a guard for the Dolphins to begin his career. He will battle second-year man Dallas Thomas for the right to play between C Mike Pouncey and LT Branden Albert. Turner may not win the starting job as Thomas has impressed thus far, but expect Turner to be used this season quite a bit.

Landry, perhaps my favorite selection from the Dolphins' 2014 haul, will be in a competition this offseason with WRs Brandon Gibson and RIshard Matthews for the slot receiver position. While I will give the upper hand to Gibson due to the way he played last season, Landry will certainly see his fair share of targets this season due to his raw ability to get open and catch the ball with his hands.

James, the Dolphins' top draft selection with the 19th overall pick, will be the team's starting right tackle this season, meaning his impact will be felt. James, who may struggle a bit out of the gate, will enter the season battle tested after facing one of the league's best pass rushers in DE Cameron Wake for the majority of training camp. Expect James to play incredibly well after the rookie jitters are gone.
