With the pressure mounting on the Washington Redskins to change their name, it's prompted fans across the web to start coming up with new nicknames. #NewRedskinsName was even trending worldwide at one point.
Here are 10 new nicknames Washington should consider. No, you will not see common suggestions like Bravehearts, Red Tails and Football Club on this list:
Yes, roadrunners are real birds. Plenty of NFL teams have birds are their mascots, so why not Washington? They could even go back to their old school 'R' logo.
What is a Paladin? A heroic champion and/or a strong supporter or defender of a cause.
This one is self explanatory with the team representing our Nation's Capital.
People would forget all about the Colonel from KFC if Washington chose this new nickname.
Here we have another tie to the Revolutionary period in American history, and yes, something completely different.
This team technically already exists (GHL hockey), but not on a national level. It rolls off the tongue and makes sense on a couple of levels.
What are they crusading for? Change. A change to what some deem a racist nickname.
The Pigskins nickname would historically tie into the franchise, it ties into football and it would still allow the team to be 'Skins' for short.
This nickname has already been used in Washington sports, but who says it can't be brought back?
If they want a name that really rolls off the tongue and still sounds tough, Warriors is the obvious choice.
