5 Surprise Starters For Denver Broncos in 2014

The Denver Broncos are looking to make a return trip to the Super Bowl. If there are going to have any hopes of doing so, they will need all 53 players on the roster to give it their all. There were some players who surprised for the Broncos in 2013, and Julius Thomas is a primary example, as he only caught one pass up until his breakout season.

With that in mind, here are five players who could be surprise starters for the reigning AFC Champs.

5. Derek Wolfe, DE/DT

I know Derek Wolfe started for the team in 2013 before his injury, but I am putting him on this list because of where I think he will start. He has stated that he feels more comfortable on the inside instead of out during the summer. Therefore, I see him starting as a defensive tackle instead of end. This could help Wolfe have a huge year in 2014.

4. Virgil Green, 2nd TE

Virgil Green had some snaps late in the season, but he is on this list because he can bring more to the team than being Julius Thomas' backup. In the AFC Championship game, he lined up as a running back and did well. Not only can he catch from Peyton Manning, but he could be utilized as a short yardage running back if needed.

3. Malik Jackson, DE

With Derek Wolfe potentially moving to the inside, this gives Malik Jackson a huge chance to build off of his late 2013 success and start at defensive end opposite DeMarcus Ware. The Broncos are looking to add an elite defense, and this is a dark horse candidate to bring added pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Even though this job is for Nate Irving to lose, I can see Lamin Barrow making an instant impact if he is awarded the starting job at middle linebacker. Barrow can make plays that can change the course of an entire game. Look out for the LSU product to become the next big thing for the defense.

With the questionable health surrounding Wes Welker, Cody Latimer might get a couple starts in his rookie year. With his hands and ability to get to the football once it is thrown to him, Latimer has all the making of becoming one of Manning's favorite targets as his career winds down. When people believe you to be a better version of Eric Decker, there is no doubt Latimer could get more starts.
