Not everything has been going completely right for the Miami Dolphins during minicamp. In fact, these five things have been duds for the team during that time.
Miami's defensive tackle sat out of team drills this past week, which was the same situation during the team's OTA sessions just a few days prior. Odrick will be paired with Randy Starks and Earl Mitchell to form Miami's defensive tackle rotation, but Odrick is losing out on his opportunity to earn a starting job over Mitchell or Starks due to his undisclosed injury, which is thought to be a groin injury. Hopefully Odrick is healthy this summer.
One of Miami's better offseason acquisitions may not be so great after all, more reasons as to why will come on the next slide. Rumors have been swirling that Moreno, fresh off a Super Bowl loss, is out of shape and thus has been working with the third team offense. This means that Moreno is behind Lamar Miller AND Daniel Thomas for snaps currently. The veteran back must get into better shape, but he may be held back because...
Moreno's left knee has apparently been acting up and may require arthroscopic surgery sooner rather than later. Moreno was brought in this offseason for two reasons. The first being that the team needed to light a fire under Lamar Miller's behind. The second being that Miami is in dire need of a pass protecting back. If Moreno is out for an extended period of time, the team may be left searching for a capable pass pro back.
Miami did a great job of rebuilding its offensive line this offseason after allowing a league-high 58 sacks in 2013. Branden Albert and Ja'Wuan James were brought in to man the tackle spots, while Shelley Smith and Dallas Thomas are to man the guard positions. The defensive line embarrassed that unit this week according to multiple sources and none can say with confidence if the offensive line is bad, or the defensive line is just top notch.
Lamar Miller was thought to be the change of pace back when the team signed Knowshon Moreno this offseason. So far, that has not been the case as Miller has seen the bulk of the first team snaps, while Moreno works with the third team offense. Miller has literally run away with this competition thus far and looks to be the top back in Miami. His stock is soaring through the roof right now. Keep an eye on Miller as the season approaches.
