OTA's and minicamp just wrapped and the Philadelphia Eagles will take a month long break before training camp and the grind of mid summer commences. There are still spots to be won and plenty of questions to be answered. Let's take a look at the five most pressing questions the Eagles must answer during training camp.
The Philadelphia Eagles are still searching for someone to solidify the backup Quarterback position. Neither Matt Barkley or Mark Sanchez has impressed so far this summer. The veteran and youngster both need to get it in gear to provide a solid insurance policy in case Nick Foles goes down.
The Philadelphia Eagles passing game was prolific last season and DeSean Jackson was the unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver. The real question is who will emulate that production? Jeremy Maclin is a prime time candidate as he has the size, speed and skill to be ultra productive in this offense.
The Philadelphia Eagles special teams unit did not fare well last season. The coverage was average and they lacked any dynamic ability in the return game. The addition of Darren Sproles should boost the return game. The acquisition of veterans like Bryan Braman and Chris Maragos will also be key in improving the coverage units. Alex Henery will have to be much better on kickoffs and long field goals though for this group to take the next step.
LeSean McCoy was a workhorse for the Philadelphia Eagles last season as he racked up over 300 carries. The Eagles will need to spell him more this season to keep him fresh. Top backup Bryce Brown was traded so Chris Polk will shoulder the responsibility of being the primary backup ball carrier as Darren Sproles will be more of factor in the passing game.
Nick Foles shredded defenses in 2013 especially towards the latter part of the season when he really found a groove. The real question is how will he perform in 2014 with defensive coordinators having been afforded a whole offseason to prepare for him? A question that should be answered loud and clear during the 2014 campaign.
