The Baltimore Ravens are only about a month out from the opening of training camp and the unofficial kickoff to the 2014 NFL season. Here are five questions the club must answer this summer.

5. Is Terrence Brooks Ready to Contribute on Defense?

The Ravens nabbed Florida State's Terrence Brooks, a rangy free safety, during the draft's third round to potentially equip the secondary with what it's been missing since Ed Reed's decline. But Darian Stewart, who lined up with the first team during OTAs, stands in Brooks' way of a starting spot this fall. Brooks could be destined for mostly special teams work if he doesn't outperform Stewart in training camp.

Unlike Brooks, first-round pick C.J. Mosley is well on his way to starting opening day. But just because he'll likely be on the field for the majority of Baltimore's defensive snaps, doesn't mean he's ready to be the tackling machine the likebacker corps needs. He has the potential to become just that, but he'll likely experience some initial struggles if the game doesn't slow down for him.

3. Will Lorenzo Taliaferro Steal Carries from Bernard Pierce?

Starting running back Ray Rice will undoubtedly serve a multiple-game ban for assaulting his fiance in February. That will leave a void at the position likely to be filled by Bernard Pierce, who has 260 carries in two years with the Ravens. But fourth-round pick Lorenzo Taliaferro is capable of pushing Pierce for that temporary starting role and eventual No. 2 spot.

2. Who Will Be No. 3 Wide Receiver?

Torrey Smith and Steve Smith will be the starting receivers in 2014. Who plays and contributes the most after those two is the question. The candidates are Marlon Brown and Jacoby Jones. Brown is much less experienced than Jones, but is a player Baltimore would like to continue developing. However, Jones offers more big-play potential.

The Ravens seemingly improved at several spots this offseason, but their offensive line remains a big question mark. Few fronts were as inept run blocking as Baltimore's line was in 2013. Ricky Wagner, who gave up three sacks in only 61 pass-blocking snaps as a rookie, starting at right tackle is the unit's biggest concern. If the offensive line can make significant strides despite the uncertainty, the Ravens could resurface as a contender.
