After more than a decade of futility, the Oakland Raiders roll into 2014 infused with new talent -- veterans and draft picks alike -- a renewed sense of hope, and an optimism that hasn't surrounded the Silver & Black in quite some time. But with that sense of optimism comes certain expectations -- also something the Raiders haven't felt in a while.

As the 2014 season nears, there are still many unanswered questions the Raiders must answer.

Many of Oakland's offensive woes can be traced back to poor offensive line play. Injuries ravaged the line and forced the Raiders to use multiple makeshift units. The line gave up 44 sacks in 2013 -- only nine teams gave up more. The Raiders will need solid line play this season if they hope to go anywhere in 2014 to open up the run and passing games. The talent has been upgraded overall, but will these pieces be able to form one cohesive group?

Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew are both game changers who can score from anywhere on the field at any time. But questions about their health and effectiveness linger. If they lessen their workload by splitting carries, the chances are good that they can stay healthy and form an incredibly potent running attack. Latavius Murray and Kory Sheets will see some action and be good change of pace backs who will add to the Raiders ground game.

Though right now it seems that there is no question that Matt Schaub will be the team's starter, recent comments by OC Greg Olson suggest that perhaps it's not as set in stone as we all believe it to be. Olson, though praising Schaub and what he is bringing to the club, has also said that his starter's role is “written in pencil,” suggesting that perhaps there is still wiggle room for the rookie to steal the job.

2. Will the Raiders Find Consistency in Their Receiving Corps?

The Raiders have a wealth of young talent in their receiving stables. The knock on them has been their inconsistency and inability to hold on to catchable balls. Oakland is hoping that the addition of James Jones will teach their young group some consistency and how to be NFL quality receivers. Rod Streater took some big strides in filling that big hole in the offense and the team is hoping he continues to build on his successes in 2013.

LaMarr Woodley made some waves by predicting the Raiders would make the playoffs this season. A big part of making that prediction come true will be whether or not the revamped Raiders defense will be able to step up and make some plays. And much of the success of the defense will rely on the leadership of veterans Tuck and Woodley. They have been tremendously successful and hopefully that rubs off on younger players.

Bonus Question: Will Dennis Allen Be Able to Maximize the Talent on His Roster?

Allen

The franchise has been in such disarray for so long, Allen has gotten a bit of a pass in his first two seasons at the helm. But now, after GM Reggie McKenzie brought in a lot of key components, and vastly upgraded the roster across the board, there are expectations in Oakland for the first time in a long time. The question is whether or not Allen will be able to best utilize those players and maximize their talents.
