2012 was a dream year for the Washington Redskins and Robert Griffin III. The team won the NFC East and the quarterback was Rookie of the Year. But the season ended with RG3's knee shredded in a playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
The Redskins flopped through 2013 on the way to a 3-13 record, Griffin was not yet the same and head coach Mike Shanahan was fired.
Can Jay Gruden help the team forget 2013 and build on 2012?

The knee brace is off and Griffin has had a full year to recover. The additions of DeSean Jackson and Andre Roberts give him more weapons than ever. Every Washington fan will wince and pray the first time he takes a hit. Will all the promise he showcased his rookie year continue to develop or is RG3 forever broken?

DeSean Jackson was enough of a nuisance to Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles to get cut after a career year. His punishment is a three-year, $ 24 million contract. Will the behavior that got him shoved out of Philly improve?
Can he make more catches than Pierre Garcon or Jordan Reed? I foresee him being a big-play star in some games and invisible in others. Can he match last year's 82 catches and 1,332 yards?

Fletcher is now retired, ending a streak of 215 consecutive starts. Washington needs a new defensive leader and play-caller. Perry Riley Jr. and Keenan Robinson are expected to start at the inside linebacker spots.
Riley spent four years playing behind Fletcher but may not be the bold personality needed.
Robinson may have the fire, but he must win the job from Darryl Sharpton and Akeem Jordan.
An ironman like Fletcher will not be easily replaced.

Pressure is stronger than ever for Washington to change its nickname. A federal patent board has cancelled the Redskins' trademark on the grounds that it is disparaging to Native Americans. Owner Dan Snyder continues to hold his ground, but the tide is shifting.
Before long, the NFL will listen to the masses and force action. The only questions are when and what will the new name be?

George Preston Marshall (right) is pictured here with President Harry Truman (center). Marshall purchased the Boston Braves in 1932, moved the team to Washington and renamed them the Redskins. From 1934-46, only white men played in the NFL. Marshall was a strong force behind that.
He only integrated his own team in 1962 after the government threatened to void his stadium lease.
He was enshrined in the Hall of Fame the next year.
