On July 22, the Dallas Cowboys are heading to Oxnard, Calif., for training camp. During a portion of the camp, they will even be hosting the Oakland Raiders for joint practices.

The Cowboys have made an abundance of changes on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball to both players and coaches, so I’m eager to see what they look like on the field.

Let’s take a look at five storylines that you should follow during training camp.

So far, Kyle Orton has been a no-show for the Cowboys. Rumor has it that Orton is considering retirement. I’d look to see how Brandon Weeden is performing, and if he’s up to the task, then that could make Orton expendable. Financially, however, that doesn’t bode well for the Cowboys. Orton should just retire.

Earlier in the week, the Cowboys traded for middle linebacker Rolando McClain. As you might recall, McClain has retired and un-retired a few times as he tries to get his life in order, but is there more than meets the eye? What does this say about Anthony Hitchens and Justin Durant?

We know that Zack Martin will be a Day 1 starter, but aside from him, I haven’t heard much about any of the other rookies. I’d look to see how the rest of the draft class is coming along, especially DeMarcus Lawrence, whom the Cowboys coveted so much.

Are the Cowboys Closer to Extending Dez Bryant and Tyron Smith?

Dez Bryant and Tyron Smith are considered two of the best players in the NFL, and the Cowboys would love to have them re-signed long-term. I’d look for talks to heat up during training camp.

How is Tony Romo’s Back Holding up?

Tony Romo isn’t a spring chicken anymore, and after undergoing two back surgeries there’s a lot of talk that he might not make it through the season. I’d look to see how Romo is throwing the ball. Does he still have his lightning quick release? Can he still get some zip on the ball?
