The Kansas City Chiefs made it to the 2014 NFL Playoffs as a Wild Card team, but they will want to try and secure a spot in the 2015 playoffs as the winners of the AFC West. With the Denver Broncos and improving San Diego Chargers their biggest competition, it's going to take a lot of work. Here are five reasons why Kansas City will win the AFC West in 2014.

Let’s face it; the only thing standing between Kansas City and an AFC West title is Peyton Manning. Although Kansas City and Denver both have extremely difficult schedules, Denver’s is slightly more difficult. These are two of the best teams in the NFL, and one loss for Denver could give the Chiefs all the edge they need to win the division.

Brandon Flowers leaving will leave a hole at the cornerback position, but fans can rest easy knowing they have one of the top safeties in the NFL in Eric Berry. Berry gets consistently better year after year. Expect him to step it up once again.

Kansas City has an elite NFL defense, but the amazing thing about their defense is that they don’t have one or two players everybody talks about. Like the Seattle Seahawks, their defense is made up of players who do their jobs and do them well. The Chiefs’ defense wants to win the game, and they know that opposing teams must go through them to do so.

Call him a game manager if you want to belittle everything he’s done in his career, but in reality he’s a great quarterback. Smith is clutch when he needs to be and throws deep balls when necessary; all that matters is winning.

Charles is considered one of the top running backs in the NFL due to his ability in the pass and run game. He’s the X-factor on this team and has proven that his success is no fluke.
