Although he wasn’t the first or even second quarterback drafted in the 2014 NFL draft, Teddy Bridgewater is the rookie signal caller with the best chance to have immediate success. He fell into a great situation with the Minnesota Vikings, and he should be able to thrive right away with his new team. Here are five reasons why Bridgewater will be successful in 2014.
As far as rookie quarterbacks are concerned, Bridgewater is by far and away the most polished passer of his class. He is the type of player who can step in as a rookie and avoid many of the rookie mistakes that are so common in the league.
Norv Turner is inept as a head coach, but as an offensive coordinator, he is one of the better coaches in the league. Turner is going to mold the playbook to highlight Bridgewater’s strengths and limit his weaknesses, and his presence is going to help Bridgewater immediately contribute.
The Vikings have one of the NFL’s more experienced rosters, and that’s going to help Bridgewater tremendously. Fellow quarterback Matt Cassel, as well as other veterans like Greg Jennings and Adrian Peterson, are going to help ease Bridgewater’s transition to the NFL game.
Bridgewater is by far and away the most accurate rookie quarterback in this class. He completed 71 percent of his passes in 2013, and his accuracy is perhaps the one thing that sets him apart from other rookies at his position.
Like I said earlier, Bridgewater is going to be in a good situation with the Vikings. The team has a ton of talent on the offensive side of the ball, and it’s going to show when the season starts. Guys like Greg Jennings, Cordarrelle Patterson, Adrian Peterson and Kyle Rudolph are going to take a lot of pressure off Bridgewater and allow him to play his best.
