Although they are one of the more talented teams in all of football, the Arizona Cardinals aren’t going to win the NFC West in 2014. The odds are against them, and really, there’s little hope for Cardinals fans to expect a division title next season. With that said, here are five reasons why the Cardinals won’t win the NFC West in 2014.

In 2013, Carson Palmer showed that he is still declining. Although it wasn’t as bad as his days in Oakland, Palmer’s play didn’t really inspire much confidence, especially when compared to other quarterbacks in the division.

Although the Cardinals made improvements along the offensive line that will help in the long run, there is too little chemistry along the line right now. With possibly three new starters along the line, it will take time for the unit to jell.

Andre Ellington showed flashes of dominance in 2013, but it remains to be seen whether he can hold up over the course of an entire season. Ellington just hasn’t yet proven that he is an upper-echelon running back in the NFL.

The Cardinals took a big hit with the loss of Karlos Dansby to the Cleveland Browns, but an even bigger hit occurred when it was announced that Daryl Washington would be missing the entire season due to a suspension. Throw in the fact that key players are aging and Tyrann Mathieu isn’t fully healthy, and there’s cause for concern.

In any other division the Cardinals would likely be contenders, but the NFC West is just too tough. With the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams all very talented, it will be tough for the Cardinals to do much in their division.
