The Dallas Cowboys’ youth movement during the offseason has had its share of pleasant surprises.

One of the coolest things about it, in my opinion, is getting to see these young guys come in and bust their tails off in an attempt to make the 53-man roster.

So come along with me as I select my five dark horse candidates to make the Cowboys’ 53-man roster.

I don’t think that I’m alone when I say that the Cowboys’ running game is better when there is a fullback leading the way for DeMarco Murray, and J.C. Copeland is the bulldozer that the Cowboys have been looking for.

Keith Smith is a guy that I like. His measurables aren’t the greatest, but the kid has heart. He did some good things at minicamp, and I expect that he will continue to do so during training camp.

Will Smith has all the tools that you look for in a linebacker, and given the state of the Cowboys linebacking corps, he has a real chance to make the final 53-man roster if he continues to impress.

Davon Coleman is a versatile defensive tackle, whom I liked a lot leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft. His ability to play both the 1-technique and 3-technique defensive tackle spots will make him a hard player to cut.

Of all the draft picks aside from maybe Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence, Ken Bishop really has a chance to contribute to the Cowboys right away. He is the only true 1-technique defensive tackle on the team, and was impressive during minicamp.
