Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson has expressed interest in being traded. The Texans would have to eat around million in dead cap space to make it happen and find a suitor able to take him. Here are five teams that have a need and the means to make it happen.
New England is great at surrounding QB Tom Brady with elite talent. They are shy of the cap space to fit Johnson in right now, but with the recent injury to WR Aaron Dobson, the team might be motivated to make room for the star receiver.
Andy Reid turned the Kansas City Chiefs around in 2013. They have a solid amount of cap space and adding Johnson into the mix would make the one-two combo of WR Dwayne Bowe and Johnson one of the best in the NFL.
The New York Jets have around million in free cap space. They just signed Eric Decker and adding Johnson could put the offense on the right track. If the Patriots are truly interested, then the Jets would be keeping one of the best receivers in the NFL out of the hands of their rival.
WR Josh Gordon is out of a No. 1 wideout spot in Cleveland. The wide receiver will potentially miss the entire 2014 season and the Browns need to fill the void. Cleveland also has the money to make it happen and will be looking to surround their QB Johnny Manziel with talent.
The Carolina Panthers would have to make cuts to get the money to afford Johnson, but the team needs receivers. QB Cam Newton is one of the most versatile athletes in the NFL and lost his most reliable target, Steve Smith, to the Baltimore Ravens. The Panthers are in desperate need of an offensive threat to support Newton.
