There's a good chance when you come across a list of potential breakout stars for the 2014 NFL season that you'll see Cordarrelle Patterson's name. He's expected by nearly everybody that follows football to make major strides in his second season.

Here are five reasons why Patterson is indeed the next NFL star:

Patterson ranked near the top of the league in all the major kickoff return categories duing his rookie reason. He returned 43 kicks for 1,393 yards and two touchdowns. For his efforts, CP made the Pro Bowl as special teams member. Look for these trends to continue in his sophomore season, and then some.

The main knock on Patterson coming out of college was his lack of major football experience. He only played one season at the D-I level, so to call him a raw talent coming out of school, was definitely an understatement. CP should have a much better grasp of what it takes to be successful in the NFL during his second season.

The word from Vikings' OTAs and minicamp was that Patterson's route running was noticeably improved from a season ago. If he can continue to tighten up his routes, the rest of the NFL will be in major trouble.

2. The Talent Around Him

With the league's best running back in Adrian Peterson, another up-and-coming star in tight end Kyle Rudolph and a proven veteran WR in Greg Jennings by his side, there are plenty of playmakers on the Vikings' offense to take attention away from Patterson. Again, this equals bad news for opposing defenses. Good luck trying to cover CP one-on-one as he continues to improve his game.

Above all else, Norv Turner is the reason fans should feel confident in Patterson's ability to become a star in 2014. While calling Turner an 'offensive genius' might be an overstatement, the guy has proven himself to be one of the best offensive minds in the game over the past two decades. A guy like CP is an offensive coordinator's dream. There's truly no limit to what he can do.
