The Washington Redskins have a new coach, big new additions on both offense and defense and are navigating controversy this offseason. Jay Gruden and the Redskins have plenty to prove in the 2014 NFL season. With training camp just weeks away, these are the stories to focus on.
Alfred Morris is the go-to running back in DC with Roy Helu Jr. and Evan Royster gunning for the No. 2 spot. If Morris goes down, the backups have to prove they can carry the running game. Robert Griffin III cannot do all of the running and the Redskins need to protect their quarterback and starting running back.
TE Jordan Reed ended his rookie season with a concussion. He was on pace to be one of the top 10 tight ends in the NFL. This training camp, Reed must prove that he can be the go-to tight end for the Washington Redskins.
Safety Ryan Clark was brought in for his veteran leadership. His role on defense went up when Tanard Jackson was suspended indefinitely by the NFL. The defense needs to find its identity under a new coaching staff and the veteran leadership of players like Clark.
Linebacker Brian Orakpo is a three-time Pro-Bowler and one of the foundations of the Redskins defense. He is now playing to prove that he deserves a monster contract. The Redskins put a franchise tag on Orakpo and have made his future with the team uncertain. If he produces this season, he can earn himself a large contract that will keep him in DC.
DeSean Jackson is a huge upgrade in the WR department. Now, with Pierre Garcon and Jackson, the Redskins can spread the offense and utilize players like Jordan Reed and veteran Santana Moss. Jackson is coming off of his most productive year and needs to continue producing if the Redskins want to win the division.
