Expected to take over for star quarterback Connor Shaw in 2014, South Carolina senior Dylan Thompson has some big shoes to fill. That said, Thompson appears to be up to the task. Not only does Thompson look like a great replacement for Shaw, he also looks like a sleeper in the 2015 NFL draft.
Thompson is every bit as talented as Shaw, perhaps even more talented than his former teammate. He also has decent athletic ability, and a lot of natural arm talent. Not to mention, Thompson has good size, coming in at 6-foot-3, 219 pounds, and he has a solid build. Throw in the fact he has had plenty of time to develop and learn, and it’s easy to see why Thompson is a sleeper in the 2015 draft.
The one thing that might hurt Thompson is his lack of starting experience. He has just three starts at this point, but all of them have been wins. That said, scouts are always hesitant about limited sample sizes. And if he is going to prove the doubters wrong, Thompson is going to need to be impressive over the course of entire season. Luckily for both him and South Carolina, Thompson has the talent to do it.
All in all, Dylan Thompson is worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses. He’s under a lot of pressure to perform well, but he is good enough to handle the task. Mark my words, Thompson is going to be a sleeper in next year’s draft.
