Arguably the best team to miss the playoffs last year, the Arizona Cardinals aim to move up in the NFC West. If the San Francisco 49ers miss a step, look out for Bruce Arians' gang to jump into second place. As the only team to beat Russell Wilson's Seattle Seahawks at home, how will they improve during training camp? What troubles can keep them from matching or improving on their 10-6 record from 2013?
Will the Twitter war continue or will they be too busy practicing? Sherman is never too busy to talk trash, and Peterson will never fail to fire back. Sherman says Peterson gets burned regularly. Peterson responds that Sherman always has help over the top. With no football being played, all fans like us have is the verbal sparring. Keep jawing, gentlemen, or we might get bored.
The Cardinals drafted John Brown from Pittsburgh State in the third round and Walt Powell from Murray State in the sixth. Add those guys to third-year WR Michael Floyd and Fitzgerald has much-needed support. A consummate professional and diligent trainer, Fitzgerald is just what young receivers need to develop into solid performers.
Antonio Cromartie joins Peterson from the New York Jets. Tyrann Mathieu is returning from injury. Safety Deone Bucannon from Washington State was Arizona's first pick. Could this defensive secondary rival Seattle's and put some money where Peterson's mouth is? Three other undrafted rookie corners are also competing for a job.
In the fourth round Arizona selected Logan Thomas from Virginia Tech. At 6-foot-6 and 248 pounds, he has the classic build. How long will Carson Palmer mentor him before being replaced? Ryan Lindley and Drew Stanton remain on the roster from last year. Stanton has the backup spot currently with the other two competing for third string. How will it play out?
Dansby left as a free agent and is now with the Cleveland Browns. Washington is suspended for a year for substance abuse. ILB was a strength for the Cardinals' defense last year, but now it has become a weakness. Sophomore Kevin Mintner is being groomed to take over Dansby's play-calling responsibilities. Will Sam Acho or Alex Okafor move inside from OLB or will someone else step up?
