We see it every single season in the NFL as some teams rise up from the cellar to surprise and compete for a playoff berth, while others tend to fall from grace and burn to the ground.

Unfortunately, here are the top 5 teams on the decline after putting together promising seasons in 2013.

The Kansas City Chiefs were absolutely gutted this offseason via free agency and did little to help their cause via the draft by making some questionable decisions with their picks. OLB Justin Houston is disgruntled and may not remain in Kansas City much longer, and the vaunted defense from 2013 does not look as daunting this season -- especially if Houston is missing or distracted for the majority of the season.

Brady and the Patriots have owned the AFC East for well over a decade now, but the Bills, Dolphins and Jets have all made vast improvements this offseason to be much more competitive. The Patriots are still the class of the east, but there is no reason to believe that they cannot be unseated as the division champs in 2014. The Jets and Dolphins have the best chance in doing so, but don't sleep on the Bills.

Arizona was one of the surprise teams in 2013 and put together a 10-6 season, but the team still missed out on the playoffs by just a hair. Arizona is a young squad and could do some damage, but the team will have to fill the void left by Daryl Washington and Karlos Dansby at ILB as well as find an identity on offense in 2014. In the ever competitive NFC West, I feel as though Arizona could struggle.

Carolina could continue a long lasting tradition of going from first to worst in the NFC South after losing the majority of their offensive line and receiving corps this offseason. The team did little to address either issue with young talent and got much older by bringing in WRs Jason Avant and Jerricho Cotchery to be QB Cam Newton's top targets along with WR Kelvin Benjamin. The team being stuck in the NFC South does not help their cause much.

Call me crazy, but I believe in Super Bowl hangovers and I truly believe that the Seattle Seahawks will have one nasty Super Bowl hangover this season. Seattle plays in the NFL's best and most competitive division and will have to thrive with a big target on their back this season. The San Francisco 49ers are not going away and are loaded with talent this season, as are the St. Louis Rams. They could make it tough for Seattle to repeat in 2014.
