The New York Jets have not won a Super Bowl since 1969 and the drought has been a painful one. Every year Jet fans think that this year could be their year and it's hard to knock their optimism. The Jets have had some great teams, but don't have many rings to show. Jet fans don't give up hope on your team because there are a lot of fans out there just like you. Some days it's hard being a Jets fan, but it's also hard to disown your favorite team.
If the Jets were Superman then Tom Brady would be their kryptonite. Imagine if the Patriots didn't have the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback, life for Jet fans would be a lot easier. Every year Brady makes the Patriots Super Bowl contenders and every year Jet fans cringe as Brady wins playoff after playoff game. At least Brady is up there in age so his glory days may be over soon, hopefully.
Turn on the television or flip on the radio and all you hear is New York Jets this and New York Jets that. Hearing about the Jets over and over again can be annoying, especially when the media always looks for a negative in everything they do. The Jets are often under a microscope and that is expected when playing in New York, but constantly hearing about them over and over again gets annoying after a while. Am I right?
Ever since Rex Ryan took over as the Jets head coach, he has hyped up his players and team over and over again. Everyone remembers his famous Super Bowl prediction, and it's great that he has confidence, but sometimes Ryan sets the bar too high. It's hard enough playing in the media market that the Jets do but more gasoline on the fire is never a good thing.
This one is expected no matter what the team, but even more for the New York Jets. When you share a stadium with another New York team and play in the biggest market in the world, expectations are always high. Every year Jet fans expect their team to be competitive and have a chance to make the playoffs. Over the past few years the Jets have been in a rebuilding stage, but every year Jet fans are eager to see their team win a few more games.
Every fan can relate to this and this is the one that stings the most. The heartbreak moment I remember the best is when the Jets lost to the Steelers in 2005. Jets kicker Doug Brien had two chances in the last 2:02 minutes of regulation to win the game and send the Jets to the AFC Championship game but he missed both. First Brien missed from 47 yards and then again from 43 yards out. Moments like that make it pretty tough to be a Jets fan.
