The San Diego Chargers are due to report to training camp on Wednesday and will hit the practice field first time on Thursday. Here are five rumors surrounding the club as it looks to build off of January's playoff win.

Former first-round pick Larry English's career has been a major disappointment thus far. And when final cuts are made later this summer, it could hit an all-time low. According to this rumor, the presence of outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu, who was nabbed in the second round of May's draft, will push English off the roster.

Incumbent starting right guard Jeromey Clary missed all of OTAs and was still seen on crutches last month after hip and shoulder surgeries. He's expected, healthy or not, to be challenged by third-round pick Chris Watt, a capable rookie from Notre Dame. San Diego's offensive line fared well as a whole in 2013, but Clary didn't. According to Pro Football Focus, only nine guards in the entire league graded worse in overall productivity.

3. Jason Verrett is Ready for Start of Camp

First-round pick Jason Verrett was originally thought to be sidelined until August after shoulder surgery. But when the Chargers hit the practice field later this week, Verrett is expected to be a full-go, as his recovery has gone quicker than anticipated. The extra reps should bode well for his chances of earning a significant, if not starting, role.

Despite the addition of running back Donald Brown in free agency, there's been no indication that Ryan Matthews will have his workload lessened in 2014. That is a questionable strategy, as keeping Matthews fresh would likely only enhance his effectiveness and Brown, after a quietly solid year in Indianapolis, is a capable No. 2. But it should mean Matthews will remain one of the league's most productive backs.

The Chargers' biggest breakout candidate is unmistakably tight end Ladarius Green. With prototypical size for the position and the speed of a wideout, Green has all the tools to thrive with an expanded role. He should acquire just that in 2014, and even worked with the starters during the offseason as Antonio Gates dealt with a personal matter.
