Training camp in Mankato, Minn. is officially underway. Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and the rest of his staff will have a number of decisions to make concerning who will start at each position in the coming weeks.

Here are the top-5 position battles to watch at Vikings training camp in 2014.

Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson are firmly solidified atop the Vikings' wide receiver depth chart, but there remain questions behind them. Jarius Wright and Jerome Simpson will battle for the No. 3 wide receiver role. Adam Thielen, Josh Cooper, Erik Lora and others will also be competing for a roster spot. Expect this competition to last well into training camp, as there currently is no defined No. 5 wide receiver.

Xavier Rhodes and Captain Munnerlyn will be the No. 1 and No. 2 cornerbacks, but behind these two a lot is still to be decided. Offseason signing Derek Cox will try to get his career back on track, and Josh Robinson will not hand over the No. 3 cornerback spot without a fight. Shaun Prater and Marcus Sherels will also be competing for a roster spot, making the cornerback positional battle a career-defining competition for many players.

Jamarca Sanford will be forced to fend off a number of players vying for his position as a result of lackluster production the past few seasons. Former Notre Dame standout Robert Blanton appears to be the favorite to take his spot, but offseason signing Kurt Coleman, Andrew Sendejo and the underwhelming Mistral Raymond will also be involved in the competition. This is another positional battle that should come down to the wire.

2. Linebacker

Linebacker may be the most up in the air of all the Minnesota positional battles. Chad Greenway will start at one of the linebacker positions, possibly even MLB given that he practiced there this summer. Jasper Brinkley and Audie Cole appear to be the favorites to start at the other two positions, in some variation, but Gerald Hodges, Michael Mauti and Anthony Barr are certainly not out of contention. This battle may lead to a rotational system.

Arguably the most enticing and competitive positional battle in the entire NFL, the Vikings' quarterback competition promises to be very entertaining. Matt Cassel appears to be the favorite to start Week 1, but rookie Teddy Bridgewater has taken major strides over the summer and could possibly overtake him. Former Vikings starter Christian Ponder may factor in to some degree as well, especially if someone sustains an injury.
