Training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles gets underway on Saturday. With expectations at a high for both the team and their fans, you better believe that every dropped pass, pulled hammy and spectacular catch will be over-analyzed for the rest of the summer. One thing that should not be overlooked is the battle that will be going on for a few key positions within the team. Here are the top five position battles as NFL training camp commences.

Returning starter Bradley Fletcher is the favorite to win this job, especially with the team firm on its stance to keep Brandon Boykin in the slot. But Nolan Carroll was an underrated signing for the Eagles, so do not be surprised if he pushes Fletcher throughout camp.

Both Brent Celek and Zach Ertz will see plenty of snaps throughout the entire season. However, even with Celek listed atop the depth chart, Ertz is a breakout candidate for Philly in 2014. As a result, Ertz could be seeing his name ahead of Celek’s as early as Week 1.

3. Slot Wide Receiver

As of now, Brad Smith is listed as the slot WR. That is sure to change, as Jordan Matthews will most likely begin the season in that position. However, do not be surprised to see fellow rookie Josh Huff push for time in the slot as well.

Alex Henery struggled mightily on field goals over 50 yards as well as forcing touchbacks on kickoffs in 2014. With the Eagles signing rookie free agent Carey Spear, there will be a legitimate battle going on throughout training camp for that one spot.

With Malcolm Jenkins cemented in at free safety, Nate Allen and Earl Wolff will battle it out for the strong safety spot. Allen enters camp as the starter, but this race could go either way.
