The beginning of the 2014 NFL season is a little over a month away. There looks to be plenty of intriguing storylines around the league this year, especially at the individual level. Here are 5 players in particular who you should watch closely this year.

Lamarr Houston will be counted on to bottle up the run game and produce sacks for the Chicago Bears, joining a defense that did the polar opposite of those two things last season. As Houston goes, so will the Bears.

4. Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals

Andy Dalton is playing for his next contract, and how he performs this coming season will go a long way in determining how much it's worth and whether or not it's with the Cincinnati Bengals. A productive year in which he is no longer viewed as the offense's weak point would net Dalton huge money from Cincinnati.

3. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks

Russell Wilson has had Marshawn Lynch right behind him for every game that he's played in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks. It'll be very interesting to see how Wilson looks when his team's No. 1 offensive threat isn't on the field. The Seahawks are a run-heavy team, but the absence of Lynch may force Wilson to climb out of his comfort zone.

2. Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins

Robert Griffin III had a nightmarishly bad 2013 season for the Washington Redskins, never appearing to be fully healthy and clashing behind the scenes with a coach who he plainly did not see eye to eye with. Griffin is healthy now with a new coach in Jay Gruden and a fresh system. Will 2014 see RGIII move back towards his dynamic 2012 form, or will disappointment continue to rule the day in D.C.?

When the football is in his hands, Cordarrelle Patterson is the NFL's most exciting player. He took a sizable leap forward towards the end of last season, scoring 6 touchdowns in the Minnesota Vikings' last 5 games. Patterson is still incredibly raw as a receiver, but if he can continue to develop his skills there, he has the tools to become the most dominant all-around offensive threat in the league.
