Some love them and some hate them, but the Dallas Cowboys are always worth watching. This season the Cowboys have a lot of familiar faces and a few new ones as well. Here is my top 10 players to keep an eye on for the Cowboys during the 2014 season.

10. Tony Romo

Romo is an obvious player to look out for in Dallas. He got his money and now it’s time for him to show the haters that he can be an elite quarterback in the league. With Dez Bryant and Jason Witten on his side, he has some great targets to throw to, but it’s up to him to make it work. This season will be a big one for Romo. He needs to stay healthy and play at a high level; if not the Cowboys may be in trouble.

The Cowboys are known for making a splash in the NFL draft, but this year it was a little different. With the No. 16 pick in the NFL Draft, the Cowboys took the versatile lineman to fill a big need on the offensive line. It’s not a flashy pick, but I believe that Martin will be a household name for years to come.

Only the Dallas Cowboys would trade for a guy who is retired, right? It’s a very risky move for a guy who was recently sentenced to jail for 18 days, but McClain will appeal the decision and he hopes to take the field soon. It was a low-risk, high-reward move, so let’s see if this one pays off in the end.

7. Dez Bryant

Since 2012, Bryant has established himself as one of the top receivers in the league, and this year, he will be elite again. Bryant has a ton of athleticism and he is a fun receiver to watch on the field. It’s hard not to recognize who he is on the field because Bryant is usually the guy talking trash and making plays. Look for Bryant to to go for 1,000-plus yards and 10-plus touchdowns again this season.

6. Demarcus Lawrence

It’s funny how Demarcus Lawrence and Demarcus Ware share the same first name. Unfortunately for Lawrence, he shares the same first name as the guy he was brought in to replace. Lawrence recently said that he expects to have 10 sacks this year, so maybe he likes the pressure. The young DE had 10.5 sacks for Boise State last year, but 10 sacks in college are pretty hard to achieve in the pros.

5. Jason Witten

Witten is always a good guy to watch for because no one knows when his inevitable fall off will happen. The Cowboys drafted Gabin Escobar in the second round of the NFL Draft so the days of Witten may be coming to an end soon. Watch for Escobar to slowly steal time away from Escobar as the Cowboys take a look into the future.

4. Will Smith

Cowboys’ Will Smith was taken in the seventh round of the NFL draft, but he may surprise a few people if he gets a chance with the team. The Cowboys need help at the linebacker position and maybe, just maybe, Smith has a chance to impress and make the team. During his senior season at Texas A&M Smith had 120 tackles in 13 starts. That’s a pretty good amount of tackles right there.

3. J.J. Wilcox

The Cowboys don’t have a lot of depth at the safety position, so it’s up to Wilcox to fill the void. Last season he had 38 tackles and one pass breakup, but those are not top stats to hang your hat on. He has impressed so far in training camp and the Cowboys feel like he will get the job done in the secondary. Wilcox needs to play big for the ‘Boys this year and step up big time.

2. DeMarco Murray

Murray has all the talent in the world to be great, but he has not reached that elite status. He reminds me of Tony Romo in a lot of ways because both are good, both have top not talent, but I don’t feel like either of them have hit their peak yet. Watch for Murray this year to be a big part of the Cowboys’ offense.

The Baylor native had a solid season as the No. 2 guy behind Dez Bryant in 2013. Last season he finished with 736 yards and five touchdowns, but I feel like he is due for a big year. With Bryant gaining all the attention on one side of the field, Williams will have single coverage and the opportunity to put up some solid numbers again this year.
