The New England Patriots have been slugging away in the dog days of summer for four days now. Pads have been strapped on, shoulders have been lowered, and fights have broken out in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Here are five players who have been turning heads since the whistles started blowing on Thursday.
Thompkins’ strong offseason has carried into training camp. He’s flashed circus-catch ability while also beating newcomer Brandon Browner in one-on-one drills. However, it’s evident Thompkins still hasn’t been cured of the dropsies, as he dropped several passes on Sunday.
Kline has stood out in the first four days of training camp by consistently winning his one-on-one matchups. It remains to be seen if the sophomore guard can keep up the strong play, but he stands a decent chance to be the sixth man on the offensive line and contend for a starting job.
Like Kline, Stork has been a champ in one-on-one battles. If he keeps playing like he has since Saturday morning, the starting center job could very well be his to lose. Ryan Wendell, watch out.
The rookie broke out for a few long runs on Day 4, showing breakaway speed that the Patriots’ backfield has been lacking in the past few years. While he did get clocked by Brandon Browner on another long run, he managed to hold on to the ball, yet another trait that Pats running backs struggled with in 2013.
Ever since the Patriots have started practicing in pads, Revis has been the best player on the field. He’s picked off Tom Brady several times, and has been winning just about all of his one-on-one matchups. With Revis patrolling the secondary, the Patriots are simply are a better team, no doubt about it.
