The Jacksonville Jaguars have been the team most often used as a joke in the NFL over the past few seasons, but things are changing down in Florida. With new franchise players and a revamped stadium, the Jaguars are slowly rebuilding. Here are five reasons why Jacksonville fans should be excited for the 2014 season.

It’s hard not to be jealous of the Jaguars’ stadium upgrades, even if you’re not a Jacksonville fan. Although the poolside cabanas are grabbing the headlines, they just installed a ridiculously large video screen that, in addition to the game, will show other games. This an attempt to attract more fans, and it will probably work.

4. Blake Bortles

Although their No. 3 overall draft pick may not start, he’s got the makings of becoming a solid NFL quarterback for years to come. Even if he remains the backup for most of the season, Bortles’ development should have both Jaguars and casual NFL fans excited.

3. Defensive Improvement

Although the Jaguars’ offense has struggled the past few seasons, their defense has slowly become better each season. Their young, talented defense could surprise many and, if Bortles has a fantastic rookie year, Jacksonville could win a few unexpected games. You don’t need big-name defensive players to succeed in the NFL, just a solid unit.

Maurice Jones-Drew was allowed to leave via free agency, and a new quarterback was drafted in the top five. It’s been a long time coming, but the Jaguars are finally starting to rebuild their tattered roster.
