Predicting the New York Giants’ Final Depth Chart Before the 2014 Season Begins

New York Giants Training Camp 2014: Predicting the Final Depth Chart

The New York Giants had an uncharacteristic season in 2013, and now in 2014 they are due for a rebound. There are a lot of new players wearing the red and blue this season, and they will be trying to do whatever it takes to make the opening day roster. Here is my prediction for the Giants' depth chart come the first week of the season.

Quarterback (2)

Eli Manning
Ryan Nassib

The Giants only need to go two deep here at the QB position because Manning is a workhorse. Nassib could be the next QB for the Giants in a few years, but for now, he will get a chance to study the game from the sidelines.

Rashad Jennings
Peyton Hillis
Andre Williams
David Wilson
Michael Cox
FB: Jon Conner

Wilson could start the year on the (PUP) if he is not able to get back to full speed in training camp. I could see the Giants going with five RBs here just in case Wilson doesn't prove to be healthy.

Wide Receiver (6)

Victor Cruz
Rueben Randle
Odell Beckham Jr.
Trindon Holliday
Jerrel Jernigan
Mario Manningham

This is a deep position with a lot of talent. A lot is riding on Beckham Jr. and Randle to step up and make up for some of the lack of depth on the offensive line and tight end position.

Tight End (4)

Adrien Robinson
Larry Donnell
Kellen Davis
Daniel Fells

This is a pretty weak group of TEs for the Giants, and they really didn't address this position in the offseason. All three TEs could get some playing time, and I see the Giants going with the hot hand until they find the perfect fit. I wouldn't be surprised if the starting TE at the end of the season is not on the current roster right now.

Offensive Line (9)

LT: Will Beatty, Charles Brown
LG: Geoff Schwartz, James Brewer
C: J.D. Walton, Weston Richburg
RG: John Jerry, Brandon Mosley
RT: Justin Pugh

Chris Snee is retired, and the Giants need someone to step up and take on his role. Also, Beatty is coming off an leg injury so he needs to prove to be healthy or the Giants may be trouble. Look for Pugh to step up and play well in his second year to help calm some of the uncertainty.

Defensive Line (7)

RE: Jason Pierre-Paul, Mathias Kiwanuka
LDT: Cullen Jenkins, Jay Bromley
RDT: Johnathan Hankins
LE: Damontre Moore, Robert Ayers

The Giants are stacked on the defensive line. No Tuck, no problem because Cullen Jenkins will prove to be a big pickup for the G-men, and the depth here goes all the way to the backups. Everyone can ball on this D-Line.

WLB: Jameel McClain, Jacquian Williams
MLB: Mark Herzlich
SLB: Spencer Paysinger, Devon Kennard, Dan Fox
Notable: Jon Beason (PUP)

With Beason retuning from an injury, the Giants need someone to step up and carry the load in his absence. McClain is a new guy to watch out for. The former Baltimore Raven had a solid season playing only 13 games last year. He totaled 55 tackles in 2013, and the Giants want even more from him this season.

Secondary (10)

LCB: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Charles James
RCB: Prince Amukamara, Walter Thurmond, Zack Bowman
SS: Antrel Rolle, Cooper Taylor, Nat Berhe
FS: Quintin Demps, Stevie Brown

DRC will anchor a pretty solid Giants secondary. Thurmond and Bowman are great backups and add solid depth behind DRC and Amukamara. If Amukamara struggles in 2014, he will be pulled quickly from the starting CB spot.

K: Josh Brown
P: Steve Weatherford
LS: Zak DeOssie
KR: Trindon Holliday
PR: Rueben Randle

The Giants have a solid crew here. Weatherford and Brown are safe, and I expect Holliday to win the kick returner job.
