The Arizona Cardinals are entering the 2014 season after missing the playoffs last season, even though they finished with a 10-6 record. They find themselves in the stacked NFC West, but they could be a dark horse in the conference.

Here are five reasons why Cardinals should be excited entering the 2014 season.

It's Year 2 with Carson Palmer and Bruce Arians controlling the offense, which means they should be better than next year. Palmer has a glut of weapons on the outside with Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald. Also, add in Andre Ellington in the backfield, and they have explosive weapons all over the field. Expect a big year from Palmer.

The Arizona Cardinals rewarded one of the best playmakers in football by making him the highest paid cornerback in the league. It should be interesting to watch him develop as a shutdown corner in the NFL.

Arizona had one of the top defenses in the NFL last season as they ranked sixth overall. They gave up the least amount of rushing yards of any team in the league, and they will only get better. Not only do they have a great front seven, but add in Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu and hard-hitting rookie Deone Buchanan, and the defense could be great.

2. Wide Receiving Duo

Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd could turn into one of the best receiving duos in the NFL this season. They could be the West Coast version of Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey. Fitzgerald and Floyd had 2,000 yards combined last season with 15 touchdown catches. They should be fun to watch.

Last season as a rookie, Andre Ellington was one the more exciting players in the league in part-time duty. Now the Cardinals are going to give him 25-30 touches per game. He's not going to be a three-down back, but he will get out in space and make things happen. The Cardinals could be a real exciting team this season.
