Have you ever pictured combining Comic-Con with Robert Griffin III, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Cam Newton and J.J. Watt? Well this summer, you can see these five superstars make up “The League of Captains”, united by their belief that winning on the field starts with working hard off of it.
This is Gatorade’s second time collaborating with DC Entertainment to develop a digital comic portraying some of your favorite NFL stars as their comic book alter egos. Last year featured Watt and Newton as “MegaWatt” and “The Blender” respectively.
This year those two will be joined by Griffin (“TrIIIple Impact”), Eli (“The Big Easy”) and Peyton (“The Sheriff”) to form “The League of Captains”, and each star will have their own limited-time-only Gatorade bottle as well as a digital comic.
The bottles can be found nationwide and fans can enjoy all five of the comics on Gatorade.com.
The truly neat part is that visitors can also create their own athlete-superhero and enter for a chance to win a personalized comic cover drawn by artists from DC Entertainment. For old school fanboys, printed comics of “The League of Captains” will also be available at select pro football games starting in August to go along with an extensive TV, online and in-store campaign.
My selfish favorite out of the five players is “TrIIIple Impact”, but that is mainly because I am hoping that RGIII’s selection means good things for his knee. It is pretty cool to see DC Entertainment get involved in such a creative way with Gatorade, and I will admit to spending FAR too much time creating my own customized hero on the site.
What will you call your alter ego?
