Seattle Seahawks Training Camp 2014: Predicting the Final Depth Chart

Seahawks Champs

While they may be the defending Super Bowl Champs, the Seattle Seahawks certainly aren't planning on skating through 2014 unscathed. In fact, they are arguably pushing themselves harder than ever now that they've been labeled champs. Plus, with starting RB Marshawn Lynch ending his holdout and returning to the team, Seattle should have some additional swagger this preseason. Here is a look at how the entire depth chart could unfold this year.

Quarterbacks (2)

QB - Russell Wilson, Terrelle Pryor

It is currently unknown whether or not Seattle plans on keeping more than two quarterbacks on the final roster. As of right now, it looks like Tarvaris Jackson could end up being a cap casualty this season, as Seattle continues to develop starter Russell Wilson and newly acquired backup Terrelle Pryor. Things could be worse.

RB - Marshawn Lynch, Christine Michael, Robert Turbin
FB - Derrick Coleman, Spencer Ware

This is a loaded backfield now that starting RB Marshawn Lynch has ended his training camp holdout. Behind him are two explosive young athletes in Michael and Turbin. At FB, Seattle will have another battle on their hands as former draft pick Spencer Ware will look to unseat Derrick Coleman as the starter. In the end, both could have significant value.

Wide Receivers (5)

WR - Percy Harvin, Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse, Kevin Norwood, Paul Richardson

Everyone in Seattle is excited over the return of Percy Harvin. Yet, the under-the-radar signing of the offseason may have been Doug Baldwin and his hard-earned extension. Additionally, former UW star receiver Jermaine Kearse showed a great deal of promise late in the Seahawks' playoff run. Rookies Norwood and Richardson are wild-cards as well.

Tight Ends (2)

TE - Zach Miller, Luke Willson

Former seventh-round draft pick Anthony McCoy tore his Achilles already, leaving Miller and Willson to once again ride it out at the TE position. Willson will look to continue his apprenticeship under the veteran Miller. Also, look for the Seahawks to add additional talent to their TE competition before too long.

Offensive Line (10)

T - Russell Okung, Eric Winston, Michael Bowie, Justin Britt, Alvin Bailey
G - James Carpenter, J.R. Sweezy, Stephen Schilling
C - Max Unger, Lemuel Jean-Pierre

Veteran Eric Winston was signed this offseason to compete with rookie Justin Britt for the starting right tackle job. If Britt is unable to excel early in his rookie year, they have a backup plan. Seahawks brass also signed G Stephen Schilling, who is capable of starting.

Defensive Line (11)

DE - Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril, Bruce Irvin, Greg Scruggs, Cassius Marsh, Jackson Jeffcoat
DT - Brandon Mebane, Tony McDaniel, Kevin Williams, Jordan Hill, Jimmy Staten

Seattle's dynamic pass-rushing duo of Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett will return this season after re-signing Bennett over the offseason. They also added veteran All-Pro Kevin Williams to the rotation in the middle, giving the Seahawks plenty of options up front.

Linebackers (6)

MLB - Bobby Wagner, Heath Farwell SAM - Malcolm Smith, Korey Toomer WILL - K.J. Wright, Kevin Pierre-Louis

Wagner continues to be one of the most well-rounded linebackers in the NFL. Alongside him will be K.J. Wright and likely Malcolm Smith. While Smith and Bruce Irvin split time at SAM linebacker last year, Irvin will likely head back to more of a pass-rushing role. Rookie Pierre-Louis could be a wild-card as well.

CB - Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell, Terrell Thomas, Jeremy Lane, Tharold Simon, Phillip Adams
S - Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Jeron Johnson

There's nothing shocking here. Maxwell stepped in beautifully last season for Brandon Browner, and he will be expected to do it on a full-time basis now. Replacing the departed Walter Thurmond III in the slot will likely be Terrell Thomas or Jeremy Lane.

LS - Clint Gresham
P - Jon Ryan
K - Steven Hauschka

Again, this one isn't shocking. Hauschka was nothing short of clutch last year for Seattle, and Jon Ryan is one of the NFL's best punters. His ability to flip field position is just one more lethal weapon in head coach Pete Carroll's ever-growing arsenal.
